Having Trouble Running PK2?
We Have a Solution for You!
It has proven to be very tricky to get the original Pekka Kana 2 working on modern Windows
systems, such as Windows 7 and the most recent one, Windows 10. Your game might have weird
colors or black boxes around sprites — and in the worst case, the game might not run at all.
But fear not! We have multiple solutions for you! Our recommended solution is to use one of
the new versions developed by our brilliant community developers (see the box on the right).
If you insist on using the very original version available on Piste Gamez website, then our
recommendation is to utilize a program called DxWnd. For more information,
this forum thread
on the official Piste Gamez forum.
We Are Developing a New Version
As the source code of Pekka Kana 2 has been published and is open for everyone to play with,
we, as a community, are developing new versions of the game, more suitable for modern
operating systems. So far a succesfull project is Danilolc’s SDL port of the original
source. Another project is Pekka Kana 2: Community Edition which aims at adding features
desired by the community (such as checkpoints). For more information about these projects,
see our page for development.
Join our community! If you enjoy playing Pekka Kana 2, you can come chat with us on Discord.
You can also register on the official Piste Gamez forum (although forums in general are a
bit dead nowadays).
On our Discord server, you will get the newest updates on our software development and new
PK2 episodes made by our server mates.
Are you an episode creator, a map maker? Would you like to have your very own episode that
you created to be available for download on our Episode Database? No problem! Send you
episodes to us, and we will add it to the database.
We have loads of different kind of help articles and tutorials for understanding how the
level editor, the game itself and different kind of files work. If you want to know how to
construct a tileset or how the color palettes in PK2 images work, we recommend you check out
our help page.
